The knicks were so close to five wins in a row. They clawed back from a 16 point deficit late in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime. The Knicks came out swinging against the Hawks in OT and extended their lead to 8 points with 1:30 left in the game. This is where the Knicks ran out of luck, not scoring another point in this OT and letting the Hawks tie it up late to send it to a second overtime. The Knicks could not handle the Hawks in the second OT and lost in a 140-135 thriller. Trae Young had 48 points and was firing on all cylinders.
The Knicks had a chance to put up their first 5 game win streak since the 2013-2014 season. “It’s tough, it hurts,’’ said Wayne Ellington. “Everybody is upset. We all wanted to keep on going, keep on winning. But we go back to the drawing board and we learn from it. I was telling guys after the game, shoot, it’s hard to win five in a row in this league, no matter what type of team you’re on, who’s on your team or what’s going on. It’s hard to win five in a row in this league. And we were right there.’’
Julius Randle was huge for the Knicks in their huge comeback late in the fourth. He hit two clutch free throws to tie the game and put up 35 points and had 18 rebounds. He showed a glimmer of hope with a developing Knicks squad.
The Knicks will be hosting the Wizards on Wednesday, February 12 to hope to get back on a winning streak.
